The Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS) is a conference with over 50 years of history and about 19.000 publications. HICSS hosts topics such as data mining for business, decision support for smart cities, digital innovation, among others.
Master student Esther Rojas, PhD student Ana Cárdenas, and BSc Juliana Alves, along with professors Sarajane Marques Peres and Marcelo Fantinato, members of our research group, had their study accepted for this conference. They presented their study on January 8th, 2021, in an online session during the event. Their work is entitled “Business process analysis based on anomaly detection in event logs: a study on an incident management case”, which can be found here, the abstract of which is as follows:
“Business processes allow anomalies to occur during execution. Anomaly detection aims to discover behaviors that are not typical or expected in the business process. In fact, early detection helps prevent intrusion and other risks in companies. There are several approaches that address this problem in process mining. This paper discusses anomaly detection approaches in business process discovery using a real-world event log from an ITIL-covered incident management process. We discuss benefits and limitations of using knowledge from process models discovered after treating anomalies”.
